Homemade Lavender and Eucalyptus Essential Oil Soap 🧼

This recipe is very simple to make and leaves a light, clean, and refreshing scent. I wanted to try making my own soap to learn another skill around the house, but it is also a great way to customize the scent and know exactly what is in the product. Use simple, natural ingredients, no long list of chemicals here! If you are thinking about making your own soap for the first time and want something easy this is this recipe for you!

Supplies:

  • Crockpot

  • Ladle

  • Digital scale

  • Glass measuring cup

  • Small plastic container

  • Immersion blender

  • Spatula

  • Silicone mold of your choice

Ingredients:

  • 5 oz. coconut oil

  • 5 oz olive oil

  • 6 oz soybean oil

  • 6 oz hot water

  • 2 oz sodium hydroxide (lye)

  • 2 tsp lavender essential oil

  • 1 tsp eucalyptus oil

  • 1-2 tsp crushed oats

Directions:

  1. Turn the crockpot on high and let it warm up. Turn on the digital scale, place a glass measuring cup on it, and zero it out. Weigh 5 oz of coconut oil. Once weighed, scoop into the crockpot. Repeat the process for the 5oz olive and 6oz soybean oil. Let the oils naturally all melt together.

  2. Grab the small plastic container and place it on the digital scale. Zero it out, and weigh 2 oz of sodium hydroxide. Keep away from water.

  3. Wash the glass measuring cup to remove the oil residue.

  4. Once the oils are all melted together in the crockpot, measure 6oz of hot water in the glass cup. Slowly pour the 2 oz of sodium hydroxide into the water. This will cause a reaction, so be careful, and do not get too close. The water may start boiling and be extremely hot.

  5. After the mixture has cooled down a bit, pour it into the crockpot. Grab the immersion blender and mix the oils, water, and sodium hydroxide. The mixture will change color and thicken. It may take 5 minutes or so of mixing with the immersion blender to reach a 'trace.' The mixture will be visibly thick.

  6. Once a trace is reached, measure and pour in 2 tsp lavender essential oil and 1 tsp eucalyptus essential oil. Grab some oatmeal and crush between your fingers. Measure out 1-2 tsp depending on how much of an exfoliating soap you want.

  7. Mix in the essential oils and oatmeal with a spatula. Grab your silicone soap mold. Use the ladle to pour the mixture into the mold. Tap the mold a few times on the counter.

  8. Leave the soap to cure in a place it will not be disturbed. It may take up to a month to completely harden and be ready to use but should be able to be popped out of the silicone mold in a few days.

You have made your own soap! Enjoy!
